URBI vs LifeLoop: engagement platform or the platform that runs the building?

Sepehr ShoarinejadFounder, URBI

LifeLoop is the resident engagement category leader in senior living, and its site states over 4,700 communities use it. URBI is a different shape: engagement lives inside one platform that also runs maintenance, bookings, payments, visitors, and screens. Here is the honest comparison.

What is LifeLoop, and what is it best at?

LifeLoop is a senior living engagement platform, and its depth in resident engagement and senior specific content is the benchmark in this category. On its solution page LifeLoop organizes the product into four areas: Wellness Navigator, Engagement Hub, iN2L Content, and the OpenLoop Network. The same page states the platform supports independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing.

Three strengths stand out.

  • Content. LifeLoop lists iN2L content alongside content partners including Arkadium, Coro Health, Curiosity University, Spiro100, and Wowzitude on its integrations page. No building operations platform has a senior living content library like that, and URBI does not pretend to.
  • Calendar craft. The calendar management page describes AI activity recommendations based on resident likes and dislikes, resident self scheduling, printed daily activity sheets, and calendars embedded on the community website. That is a purpose built activity director tool.
  • Clinical adjacency. The integrations page names PointClickCare and MatrixCare as EHR integrations, and the OpenLoop Network page names partners including Accushield, August Health, ECP, WelcomeHome, ALIS, and TELS.

LifeLoop also ships the surfaces operators expect. Its digital signage page describes running on any television or monitor with a standard HDMI port using an Amazon Signage Stick or Fire TV Stick, synced to the activity calendar. The resident portal page says residents can register for activities, submit requests, view alerts, and exchange messages, pictures, or videos with loved ones. A work requests feature lets residents and family members submit requests, with live status updates, photo attachments, and preventative maintenance scheduling.

If you want a dedicated engagement layer alongside the systems you already run, LifeLoop is the strongest answer in the category, and this article will not talk you out of it.

What does URBI do that an engagement platform does not?

URBI runs the building itself, and engagement is one function inside it rather than the product. The same system that holds the activity calendar also holds the work orders, the vendor assignments, the bookings, the money, the visitor log, and the screens.

  • Maintenance with vendors. Service tickets move through defined stages with priorities, subtasks, and recurrence. Vendors get a tokenized work order link, so the plumber sees the job, the photos, and the schedule without creating an account. Detail in senior living maintenance and work order software.
  • Bookings with real payments. Dining rooms, guest suites, salons, and fitness spaces book with capacity rules and conflict detection. Where a booking takes money, payment completes in the same flow, and funds settle into the community's own Stripe connected account.
  • Visitors. Guests, contractors, deliveries, and service visits each get a visitor type and a QR pass, with waivers on check in where the community requires them. Visitor rules in senior living vary by jurisdiction and license type, so treat any workflow as a tool for your policy, not a replacement for it. See visitor management for senior living.
  • Communication you can prove landed. Notices carry urgency levels and delivery modes, and delivery is tracked resident by resident. When you send the water shutoff notice, you can see who has seen it.
  • Controlled answers and a real handoff. When Arthur, the resident and family facing AI, does not know something, it escalates to the team with a summary instead of guessing. Arthur relays the team's answer in its own voice and saves it to the community scoped knowledge base, so the next person who asks is answered without interrupting anyone. Management views, edits, and deletes every entry, so answers stay curated. More in who controls what the AI tells residents.
  • Screens with an emergency takeover. URBI Display runs the calendar, dining hours, and announcements on lobby and elevator screens, and an emergency takeover overrides every screen in seconds. More in digital signage for senior living.

Then there are the two AI agents. Arthur is resident and family facing, answering by phone, SMS, email, and in app chat in ten languages. Arthur is not a chat feature. It is an agent with tool access, so once a caller is verified by PIN it opens service tickets, books amenities, pre schedules a visitor, RSVPs a resident to an event, and sends forms and payment links. Reads come back instantly. Actions wait for a person to confirm. HERO is operator facing, so an executive director can ask for open tickets by priority or event attendance for the month and get an answer built from live records. We compared Arthur to another AI resident agent in EliseAI vs Arthur.

One line of honesty: URBI has no live senior living customers. Our live communities today are residential buildings, thousands of doors, grown organically. Retirement communities are the same operations with more programming, more visitors, and more family communication, and the shipped platform maps onto that directly. The full case is in URBI for retirement communities.

How do URBI and LifeLoop compare feature by feature?

Here it is plainly. Where LifeLoop's public pages do not state something, we write "not published" rather than guessing.

Neither column is a knock on the other. LifeLoop is deeper where it chose to be deep. URBI is wider because it chose the building rather than the activity room.

What about residents who will never install an app?

Arthur answers the telephone, so URBI does not bet a community's communication on app adoption. A resident who prefers the phone calls the community's number, Arthur picks up in one of ten languages, and the maintenance request or the question about the shuttle lands in the same system as an app submission. Families get the same channels: an adult child can text or email at 9pm and get an answer from the building's own records instead of a voicemail box.

Family communication obligations in senior living vary by jurisdiction and license type, so check your local requirements before changing any notification practice. And where clinical matters begin, URBI stops. It runs the building and community side, not care plans, medication, or health records. Those stay in your clinical systems, which is exactly where LifeLoop's EHR integrations are pointed.

Which one fits your community?

LifeLoop fits communities that want a dedicated engagement layer alongside the systems they already run, that value senior specific content and wellness insight above all else, that operate across independent living through skilled nursing, and that need engagement data flowing next to clinical data. If your maintenance, accounting, and front desk systems are staying put and the gap is engagement, buying the category leader is a defensible decision.

URBI fits communities tired of paying for five tools that do not talk to each other. If your activity calendar, work orders, guest suite bookings, visitor log, screens, and resident messages live in five places, one platform underneath is worth more than one very good layer on top. It fits operators who want payments landing in their own Stripe account, who want families reaching an AI that actually answers, and who would rather test software month to month than sign a year of it. If the calendar is your specific pain point, start with senior living activity calendar software. For the whole platform, read what URBI is.

Frequently asked questions

Is URBI a replacement for LifeLoop?

For engagement alone, no. LifeLoop's content library and activity director tooling are deeper, and URBI does not carry a senior living content catalog. What URBI replaces is the wider stack: the maintenance system, the booking sheets, the visitor binder, the signage tool, and the communication chain, with engagement handled inside the same platform. Which replacement matters more depends on what is costing your staff time.

Does URBI have senior living customers?

Not yet, and we say so plainly. URBI's live communities today are residential buildings, thousands of doors, grown entirely organically. Every capability in this article is shipped and in production, just in residential settings. So we present the fit as transferable rather than proven in senior living.

Can URBI and LifeLoop run side by side?

They can. A community could keep LifeLoop for programming and content while running URBI underneath for maintenance, bookings, payments, visitors, and screens. URBI has no live two way sync with LifeLoop, and imports are handled by CSV today, so expect some duplicate entry. Most operators eventually pick one to be the source of truth.

If you are comparing engagement platforms and quietly wondering whether the real problem is that your building runs on five systems, that is the conversation we like having.
