Why does the bulletin board keep failing?

Walk into most buildings and the official communication channel is a cork board behind glass. There is a notice about an elevator inspection that happened last month. There is a printed flyer for an event that already sold out. Someone taped a water shut off notice to the mailroom door at 5 pm, and half the building never saw it.

Paper has three problems. It is slow, because someone has to print it, walk it around, and tape it up. It is invisible, because people stop reading a board that is usually out of date. And it leaves no record, so the manager has no idea who actually saw the notice about the fire panel test.

What is URBI Display?

URBI Display is a fleet of branded Chromium kiosk screens for lobbies and elevators, shipped in May 2026 as part of the URBI platform. The screens show building news, upcoming events, local news, and weather, all fed live from the same system the manager already uses to run the building. It replaces static printed notices and bulletin boards with content that updates itself.

Setup is deliberately simple. Display is activated per property, and each device activates with its own code, which can be regenerated if a device needs to be replaced or reset. The system is multi screen aware, so a property can run one screen in the lobby and another in each elevator, and every screen knows which building it belongs to.

Because Display is part of the platform rather than a separate signage product, there is no second tool to update. When the manager posts news or publishes an event in URBI, the screens pick it up. Nobody exports a slide, emails a PDF to a signage vendor, or walks a printout to the elevator.

What happens during an emergency?

This is where a live screen earns its place on the wall. URBI Display includes an emergency takeover. When something serious happens, a fire alarm, a water shut off, or an urgent board notice, the takeover overrides every screen in the building in seconds. The person waiting for the elevator sees the alert whether or not they have the app open, whether or not they read email, whether or not they ever glance at the cork board.

The same idea carries across verticals. In a commercial property, the takeover covers events like a fire alarm, an evacuation, or a water shut off across lobby, elevator, and floor lobby screens. On a school campus, screens in the lobby, front office, and hallways can switch to a lockdown notice, a weather closure, or an evacuation route. When the situation ends, the operator clears the takeover and the screens return to normal programming.

For boards and operators, the point is coverage. Push notifications reach phones. Email reaches inboxes. The screens reach everyone physically inside the building, including visitors, contractors, and the resident who never installed anything.

How does Display fit URBI's real time communication?

The screens are one output of a larger communication engine, and that is what makes them useful rather than decorative.

URBI's news system gives every post an urgency level: LOW, NORMAL, or URGENT. The author picks a delivery mode, from a quiet post in the feed to push notifications and full delivery, and picks an audience, such as the whole building, the board only, a custom group, or specific floors. An AI urgency scan reads the draft and suggests bumping a post from NORMAL to URGENT when the text contains phrases like "shut off", "alarm", or "evacuation". Posts can be scheduled ahead of time, and documents like budgets, AGM packages, and fire safety plans attach directly to the post.

Then the platform closes the loop: it tracks who saw each post, per resident. That per person delivery tracking is the difference between "we posted a notice" and "we know 82 units opened it and can follow up with the rest". URGENT posts also surface at the top of the home screen in the resident app, and the home banner rotates news, events, and vendor content that the manager curates.

URBI Display sits at the end of that pipeline as the physical surface. One post can reach a phone as a push notification, an inbox as an email, the top of the app's home screen, and the lobby screen, all from a single action by the operator. The same is true for events: publish a community barbecue or a tenant appreciation lunch through URBI's events tools and it appears on the screens as an upcoming event, right where people walk past every day.

That is the real shift. Feeding communication in real time to physical screens changes how a building talks to the people inside it. The building stops depending on everyone checking an app or an inbox, and starts speaking through its own walls.
