Why does the SMS toggle default to ON during onboarding?

The SMS toggle defaults to ON because URBI uses an opt-out model for SMS notifications. SMS messages are sent very sparingly — only for emergency alerts and time-sensitive notifications from the property (such as a water shutoff or an urgent building notice). Residents who do not want SMS messages can turn the toggle off before completing onboarding, or change it at any time afterwards from their mobile app Preferences screen.

Will URBI start sending text messages to my residents now?

Not yet. This release captures the consent only. URBI is not sending SMS messages at this time. When the SMS channel is activated in a future release, only residents who have opted in (the default) will receive emergency and time-sensitive notifications.

Can I bulk-update SMS consent for multiple residents at once?

No. SMS consent must be updated one resident at a time through the Community Member modal (Units → Unit detail → Community tab → click a member → Accessibility Options). There is no bulk-update option at this time.

Can a resident update their own SMS preference after onboarding?

Yes. Residents can update their SMS notification preference any time in the URBI resident mobile app under Profile → Preferences → SMS Notifications. Staff can also update it on their behalf using the steps in the How to Edit a Resident's SMS Consent Preference article.

What happens if I don't see the SMS toggle in the Community Member modal?

The SMS Notifications toggle appears in the Accessibility Options section for current URBI members only. If you are editing an invited resident (someone who has not yet completed onboarding), the SMS toggle is not available — SMS consent is captured by the resident themselves when they complete their onboarding.

Does turning off SMS affect other notifications (push, email)?

No. The SMS toggle only controls SMS. Email and push notification preferences are separate and remain unchanged by this release.
