Custom Groups are a powerful tool that allows you to send targeted communications to specific segments of residents in your building. Whether you need to message all pet owners, residents on a specific floor, or members of a particular committee, Custom Groups ensure the right people get the right information.

This guide will walk you through creating a group, adding units to it, and using it to send a targeted news article.

Part 1: Creating a Custom Group

  1. From the main Dashboard, navigate to Settings by clicking the gear icon in the bottom-left menu.

  2. Under your property's name, click on Building Settings.

  3. Select the Custom Group tab at the top of the page.

  4. Click the plus (+) icon on the right to open the "Add Custom Group" window.

  5. Fill in the group details:

    • Custom Group Name: Enter a clear and descriptive name (e.g., "First Floor Owners," "Pet Owners," "Parking Pass Holders").

    • Description: Add a short description for context (e.g., "Owners of units on the first floor").

    • User Types: Use the dropdown menu to select which types of users can be part of this group (e.g., "On-Site Owner," "Off-Site Owner," "Tenant"). You can select multiple types.

  6. Click Save. Your new group will now appear in the list.

Part 2: Adding Units to Your Group

Once a group is created, you need to add the specific units that belong to it.

  1. From the Custom Groups list, click on the group you just created.

  2. In the window that appears, click the Add Units button.

  3. You will be presented with two choices:

    • Pre-select all the units: Adds every unit in your property to the group.

    • Select Units: Allows you to individually choose which units to add.

  4. If you choose Select Units, use the search bar and dropdown list to find and select each unit you want to include in the group.

  5. After making your selections, click the Add Units button.

  6. Finally, click Save Custom Group. The list view will update to show the total number of units in your group.

Part 3: Using Your Custom Group for Communications

Now that your group is set up, you can use it to send targeted messages and news.

  1. Navigate to the Communication section from the left-hand menu.

  2. Select the News tab and click Create Article.

  3. In the "Create News Article" panel, you will see options for who receives the article. By default, "All Residents" is selected.

  4. Select the Custom Group option.

  5. A new dropdown menu will appear. Click on it and select the group you created (e.g., "First floor owners").

  6. Proceed with creating your news article. When you publish it, it will only be visible to the residents associated with the units in your chosen custom group.
