How a deferred deposit behaves on a manually-paid amenity booking, and the key difference: manual bookings are excluded from the automatic card reminder pipeline.
Last updated
If an amenity has deferred deposit collection turned on, a manual booking's deposit behaves the same way a card booking's deposit does, with one important difference in how the resident is (or isn't) reminded.
The deposit deferral itself is unchanged: it's computed from the amenity's own settings (whether deferred collection is on, and how many hours before the booking the deposit is due), not something staff choose at booking time. When you record a manual payment on a booking with a deferred deposit, the confirm step still shows the split clearly, for example "$45.00 collected now" and "$150.00 deposit due 48h before booking." The deposit isn't collected in cash at the moment of booking; it's scheduled, the same as it would be on the card path.
On a card booking, a deferred deposit gets an automatic Stripe payment link emailed and pushed to the resident before the booking starts, with reminder nudges if it isn't paid. That reminder pipeline is card-only. A manual booking's deferred deposit is deliberately excluded from it: it's never nudged, never sent a payment link, and never escalated by the automatic collection process, because there's no Stripe payment for that pipeline to chase.
This means staff need their own process to collect a manual booking's deferred deposit when it comes due; the deposit won't collect itself.
Once staff have actually collected a deferred deposit off the automatic pipeline (in cash, by cheque, however your property handles it), it's tracked on the booking the same way any other manual collection is, and it can later be marked Kept or Mark returned from the Payment & Refunds tab. See "Marking a security deposit returned" for that step.
Recording the deferred deposit's own collection as a separate manual-payment action (a "collect this deposit now" button, distinct from the initial booking payment) isn't part of this feature. If your property needs that as a standalone action, raise it with your account team; it's tracked as a possible future addition, not something available today.
