For residents: what the "Pay deposit now" toggle does when booking an amenity with deferred deposit collection, and how to choose whether to pay the deposit now or later.
Last updated
Some amenities collect their refundable deposit closer to your booking date instead of when you book. This guide explains what you'll see when you book one and how to choose whether to pay the deposit now or later.
Who this applies to: residents booking an amenity where your property has turned on deferred deposit collection. You don't need to do anything differently to be eligible; the option only appears when it's available for that amenity and your booking date is far enough out.
Start booking as usual. Pick your amenity, date, and time.
Look for the "Pay deposit now" toggle. If the amenity has a refundable deposit and your property has turned on deferred collection, you'll see a toggle labeled Pay deposit now, off by default.
Leave it off if you'd rather pay later. With the toggle off, any required fee is still charged the moment you book, but the deposit itself is scheduled for later. The "Total today" shown reflects only the fee, or $0 if the amenity has no fee at all. You won't be asked for a card if there's nothing to charge today.
Turn it on if you'd rather pay everything now. With the toggle on, the deposit is folded back into today's charge and you pay the full amount, deposit included, in one payment, exactly like booking used to work.
Confirm your booking. Either way, your spot is held and your booking is confirmed immediately. Deferring the deposit never delays or risks your reservation, it only changes when the deposit itself is charged.
The amenity may not offer deferred deposit collection. Not every amenity is set up this way; it's a property-level choice.
You may be booking too close to the start time. Every deferrable amenity has a cutoff (set by your property) before which the toggle is available. Book close enough to the start time and the deposit is automatically charged today along with everything else, no toggle shown, no action needed from you.
The amenity may have no deposit at all, in which case there's nothing to defer.
See "Understanding your deposit status" for what you'll see on your booking while the deposit is still pending, and "Paying your deposit early or through a link" for how to pay it whenever you're ready.
