  • The three states
  • Once it's paid
  • If it's waived instead
  • Why the wording matters

If you deferred your deposit at booking time, your booking shows one of a few states as your deposit's due date approaches. This guide explains what each one means and what, if anything, you need to do.

Who this applies to: residents with a booking that has a deferred (not-yet-collected) deposit.

The three states

Your booking itself always shows as Confirmed. It's your reservation that's confirmed the moment you book, whether or not the deposit has been paid yet. Alongside that, the deposit carries its own status that moves through three calm-to-urgent stages:

  1. Deposit due <date> (calm). This is what you'll see right after booking. It just tells you when the deposit will come due, it isn't asking you to do anything yet.

  2. Deposit due now (attention). Once your property's configured collection window opens, the note changes to let you know it's time. You'll also get an email and a push notification around this time with a secure payment link, see "Paying your deposit early or through a link."

  3. Overdue (urgent). If the deposit still hasn't been paid by the time your booking starts, the note changes again to make it clear it's now overdue. Your booking itself is still shown as Confirmed; only the deposit note escalates.

Once it's paid

Once the deposit is collected, whether you paid it yourself or staff recorded it, the deposit note disappears and the charge shows as paid on your booking history.

If it's waived instead

Occasionally staff will waive a deposit rather than collect it, for example if a booking is cancelled or a fee dispute is resolved in your favor. If that happens, you'll see Waived on the deposit instead of a due date or an overdue warning. A waived deposit means nothing more will be charged for it. There's no separate notification when this happens; you'll simply see the status change the next time you check your booking.

Why the wording matters

None of these states mean anything went wrong. "Deposit due now" and even "Overdue" describe timing, not a problem with your booking or your account; your reservation stays exactly as confirmed as it was the moment you booked. If you'd rather not watch the clock, you can pay the deposit any time before it's due; see "Paying your deposit early or through a link."
