How to Create a GL Account

1. Go to your property's Accounting settings and open the Chart of Accounts.
2. Click Add Account.

3. (Optional) Click the Accounts pull-tab on the left edge of the form to open the reference panel. It lists every code already in use on this property (code, name, and type), and you can search it while you're filling in the form, so you can confirm the code you're about to choose is actually free.

4. Fill in the required fields:
   • Code: must be unique on this property.
   • Name.
   • Account type: Asset, Liability, Equity, Revenue, or Expense. This cannot be changed once the account is saved, so pick carefully.
5. Optionally choose a Parent account to nest this account as a sub-account of an existing one, and add a Description for extra context. You can also assign the account to a custom group at this point (see How to Manage Account Groups).
6. Click Save.

7. If the code you chose gets claimed by someone else right before you save (or you skipped the reference panel and picked one already in use), URBI blocks the save and shows an error telling you the code is taken. Change the code and save again.

Good to know: Every account you create is a custom account, editable by anyone with general ledger access, including its code, at any time (see How to Edit a GL Account).
