Account groups let you organize your Chart of Accounts into custom sub-headers, like "Current Assets" or "Operating Expenses", that carry through to your Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
- Go to your property's Accounting settings and open the Chart of Accounts. Each account type (Asset, Liability, Equity, Revenue, Expense) has its own Groups panel. Click New group.
- Name the group and save. Groups nest up to two levels deep: a top-level group, and optionally one layer of sub-groups underneath it. To add a sub-group, use Add sub-group under [group name] on an existing top-level group.
- Reorder groups by dragging the grip handle up or down. The move applies instantly and a confirmation toast gives you 10 seconds to Undo. You can also reorder with a keyboard: focus the grip, press Space or Enter to pick it up, use the arrow keys to move it, and press Space or Enter again to drop it (Escape cancels).
- Assign an account to a group from that account's edit form. The Group picker only lists leaf groups, groups that have no sub-groups of their own, for that account's type. A group that contains sub-groups shows up disabled, since only leaf groups can hold accounts directly.
- Rename or delete a group from the group's actions menu. Deleting a group never blocks: its accounts become ungrouped, and if it had a sub-group, that sub-group moves up one level. Nothing is deleted from your ledger, only the grouping changes.
How groups show up on your reports
Once accounts are grouped, your Balance Sheet and Income Statement render each group as a nested sub-header with its own subtotal: type header, then your top-level group, then any sub-group, then the accounts themselves, each rolling up into the level above it. Accounts that aren't assigned to any group appear directly under their type header, no different from before. A group with no accounts assigned to it (including one whose sub-groups are all empty) doesn't show up on the report at all.
