The budget editor opens as its own full page, not a drawer or a popup. This gives the spreadsheet grid room to breathe when you are working through a full year of accounts. This article walks through the parts of the page and how they behave.
Note: The budget editor is a staff, board, and PM tool. It is not accessible to residents.
Opening the editor
Click New budget, Continue editing, Edit, or View from the Budget list to open the full-page editor for that budget. The page replaces your current view; use Cancel or Back to Budgets to return to the list.
The header stays pinned to the top of the page as you scroll through the grid. It contains:
- The Budget name field, editable inline.
- The Status badge (Draft, Active, or Archived).
- Save as draft - saves your progress without activating.
- Save and activate (labeled Save & Activate on new/draft budgets, or Save changes once the budget is Active) - saves and makes the budget the live one for its fiscal year.
- Cancel - leaves the editor. If you have unsaved changes, a confirmation prompt appears first (see below).
The grid columns
The spreadsheet grid has a fixed column layout:
- Account / group - the leftmost column, showing the group or account name. This column stays pinned (sticky) as you scroll horizontally, so you always know which row you are editing even when you have scrolled over to December.
- Baseline - the figure this year's number is measured against, present only when the budget was started from last year. A dash means there is no baseline for that line.
- Mode + Split amount - a toggle between Split (type one annual total, spread evenly) and Manual, plus the Split amount field when Split mode is selected.
- Jan through Dec - twelve monthly amount cells (the first month follows your property's fiscal year start).
- Annual - the row's total for the year, calculated automatically from the monthly cells.
- % Change - how far the annual figure has moved from the baseline. A line with no baseline reads new.
- Share of Total - the proportion of its section that the line accounts for.
Read-only mode
The editor renders read-only in two situations:
- Archived budgets - a banner explains the budget is archived and values are shown for reference only.
- Viewers without Manage permission - a banner explains you don't have permission to edit budgets for this property.
In both cases, the amount cells, toolbar actions, and Save buttons are disabled or hidden, and only Back to Budgets remains available.
The unsaved-changes prompt
If you have made changes and try to leave the editor - by clicking Cancel, navigating away, or closing the tab - a confirmation dialog asks whether you want to discard your unsaved changes. Choose Stay to keep working, or confirm to discard and leave.
