If a Close account or Close Period button won't enable, something in the checklist below still needs attention. Find the row that matches what you're seeing and follow the fix.
Applies to: Any property with GL/accounting enabled.
These stop Close account from enabling on a single account. All three must be clear at the same time.
| Blocker | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Account difference isn't $0 | This account's books don't match its bank statement yet | Match bank lines and use Add JE, Correct, or Void until the difference reaches $0. See How to Reconcile and Close a Cash Account |
| Suspense (1900) balance isn't $0 for the period | You (or someone else) parked a residual difference in Suspense earlier and haven't cleared it yet | Book a journal entry to move the amount out of Suspense and into the correct account. See Understanding the Suspense Account (1900) |
| Draft journal entries remain in the period | One or more journal entries in this period are still sitting as drafts, not posted | Open each draft entry and either post it or delete it, then recheck the readiness panel |
| Account shows "awaiting statement" | No reconciliation activity has started yet for this account this period | Wait for the bank statement to arrive, or start reconciling with whatever transactions you already have |
These stop Close Period from enabling, even if some accounts are already done.
| Blocker | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Not every cash account is closed | The button shows "close all accounts first" | Go through the remaining accounts one at a time using Balance & close until every account shows Closed |
| An earlier period is still open | Periods close oldest first | Close the older open period before this one |
If you've cleared everything in the tables above and a button still won't enable, check whether someone else on your team is mid-edit on that account (a draft journal entry or an unmatched bank line can be easy to miss). If you believe everything really is clear and the button still won't budge, reach out to support.
