Closing a period or account isn't permanent. If you find a mistake after the fact, you can reopen just the piece you need to fix, correct it, and close it again.
Applies to: Anyone with the reopen (override) permission on the property. Most people who can reconcile and close accounts can do so without this extra permission, but reopening requires it specifically. If you don't have it, ask whoever manages your property's permissions to grant it.
You can reopen a whole period (moves it from Closed back to Open) or a single account within a period (moves it from Closed back to Reconciled). They're separate actions:
If you need to post a correcting entry to a specific account, reopen that account. If you need to reopen the period itself (for example, to close it again after fixing something), you'll reopen the period separately.
Reopening the period only lifts the period-level lock. The accounts inside it stay Closed, and the confirmation now tells you this plainly, with a direct link to reopen each locked account from the same screen, instead of implying every account is postable again.
If the account's period has already been closed again since you started, URBI now refuses the reopen and tells you the period needs to be reopened first, instead of reopening the account into a period that still won't accept postings.
Once the account or period you need is reopened:
Every reopen, along with every reconcile and close, writes an entry to the audit timeline you can see on the closed-period review. That timeline records who took the action, when, and what changed, so there's always a clear trail from the original close through any corrections.
