Use this when a resident asks why their portion changed, when an invoice looks paid but a share does not, or before you record a payment on an invoice that has been forwarded.
Open the tab
- Go to Accounting > Invoices and open the invoice.
- Select the Forwarding and Splits tab.
- Read each row. Every share shows the person, their percentage, the amount of their share, what they have Paid themselves, and what has been Covered for them by a payment on the invoice.
Paid and Covered are two separate figures on every row.

Record a payment on a forwarded invoice
- Select Receive Payment from the invoice drawer as usual.
- Read the notice at the top of the modal. If the payment will close one or more shares, it names them, so you know before you save that somebody is about to be released.
- Save the payment. It is shared out across every open share in proportion to what each party still owes at that moment, not by the original percentages. Any rounding remainder goes to the sharer, or to the largest open share if the sharer has nothing left of their own.
The receive payment modal tells you which shares this payment will close.
This payment will close 1 forwarded share: priya@example.com. They will be told that somebody else covered it.
Amount
$30.00
Change an invoice total that has already been forwarded
- Edit the invoice total as usual. Before saving, a preview appears showing each recipient, their percentage, their previous amount and their new amount.
- Read the preview. Only shares with no money on them move. Anything already paid or covered is left exactly as it is.
- Save. Anyone whose amount went up gets one notice telling them the new amount.
The correction preview, before you save.

When the invoice is owed again but the shares stay closed
If a payment is reversed, a returned pre-authorised debit or a bounced cheque being the usual cases, the invoice is owed again while every share that payment covered stays closed. That is deliberate: somebody who was told they were finished is not billed a second time, and the person who authorised the payment carries it.
A panel on the Forwarding and Splits tab says exactly that, names the people who stay released, and states how much is owed on the invoice again. If you are looking at an invoice with an outstanding balance and a list of closed shares, read that panel before raising it as a fault.
What you cannot do
- You cannot delete a share that has money on it, whether the recipient paid it or somebody else covered it. Removing it would erase the record that the person was released.
- You cannot delete a declined share. The record of the decline is what stops that invoice reaching that person again.
- An ordinary open share with no money on it can still be removed.
